Access Services

Access Services provides assistance to students with disabilities to promote independence and academic progress. Assistance is based on each student’s individual need and is designed to remove barriers that hinder learning, thereby providing an equal opportunity for academic success.

Definition of a Disability:
  • Physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activity
  • Record of such impairment
  • Regarded as having such impairment
Obtaining Academic Accommodations

To initiate services, students must self-identify or disclose a disability to the Director of Counseling and Access Services. Once services have been requested, a student must:

  • Provide current documentation no older then three years from a qualified professional stating the nature and severity of the disability, diagnostic procedures used, and recommendations for assistance. Students with learning disabilities or Attention Deficit Disorder need to submit an adult psychoeducational evaluation that includes appropriate testing. IEPs are not sufficient documentation.
  • Complete a "Request for Accommodations" form which lists the specific academic support services needed. The services requested are subject to approval by the Director. This form must be completed each semester to continue accommodations.
  • Contact instructors to activate and adopt accommodations for each class.
  • Arrange for and obtain own personal attendants, tutoring, and be individually fitted for designed assistive technology.

OSU Institute of Technology is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title II, and Rehabilitation Act. Section 504. The institution is a pro-active member of the Oklahoma Association on Higher Education and Disabilities (OK-AHEAD). External Link
